Un ejemplo de los voluntarios eran los Zuavos de la provincia de Bahía, llamados Zuavos Bahianos.
Esta unidad adoptó el estilo del uniforme francés de los Zuavos.
Los Zuavos de Bahía lucharon en muchas ocasiones durante la guerra de la Triple Alianza, principalmente en los primeros momentos del conflicto.
Una característica es que eran todos negros.

An example of the Volunteers were the Zouaves from the province of Bahia, called “Zouaves of Bahia”.
This unit adopted a french-style uniform.
The zouaves fought on many occasions during the Triple Alliance War, mainly at the early stages of the conflict.
One of their characteristic that all of them were niggers.
