Forman parte de la brigada Perrégaux, encargada de subir por el flanco izquierdo del desfiladero de Mouzaïa para proteger el paso del ejército del mariscal Clauzel.
A pesar de una fuerte resistencia, los Árabes se retiraron a las cumbres vecinas del desfiladero; dadas las dificultades del terreno el ejército francés no podía emplear la artillería, por lo que el general dio la orden de carga.
Cuando se dio la señal, los Zuavos dieron su grito de guerra y escalaron hasta las cumbres, persiguiendo al enemigo de cumbre en cumbre, hasta que los forzaron a abandonar definitivamente esas posiciones privilegiadas.
Los Árabes, durante los siguientes tres días, reaparecieron en más número para intentar reconquistar las cumbres y conseguir de esta manera posiciones dominantes donde podrían haber hecho mucho daño; pero todas las ofensivas realizadas, así como las tentativas fracasaron por la firme resistencia que mostraron los Zuavos.

In spite of a strong resistance, the Arabs retired to neighboring summits of the defile; given to the difficulties of the land the French army he could not use the artillery, reason why the general issued the order to charge.
When the signal occurred, the Zouaves gave their shout military and climbed until summits, persecuting to the summit enemy, until they forced them to abandon definitively those privileged positions.
The Arabs, during following three days, reappeared in more number to try to reconquer summits and to obtain this way dominant positions where they could have made much damage; but all the made offensives, as well as the attempts failed by the firm resistance that showed the Zouaves.
