La primera insignia esta inspirada, sin duda, en el 4º Regimiento de Zuavos, el 8º Regimiento de Zuavos adopto una cabeza de chacal en una media luna y una Z, fue fabricada por Drago, Mourgeon.
En 1945, se incorporó un nuevo símbolo al reconstituirse el regimiento, se añade la cruz de Lorraine o también llamada patriarcal en color azul, muy de moda en esa época, ya que incluida en muchas insignias de los regimiento, probablemente se refiere al origen de las Fuerzas Armadas Francesas del Interior.
