George Alphonse Collingridge de Tourcey

Alphonse Collingridge De Tourcey, (1847-1931), artista e historiador, nació el 29 de octubre 1847 en el señorío de Goddington Oxfordshire, de Inglaterra.

Sus padres se mudarón a Francia en 1853 y él fue educado en el colegio Jesuita de Vaugirard, y la Academia de Bellas Artes de París, estudiando arquitectura bajo la supervisión de Viollet le Duc, en grabado de madera y pintura.

En 1867, cuando Garibaldi invadió los Estados Pontificios, Collingridge se unió a los Zuavos Pontificios y participó en diecisiete campañas, no recibiendo ninguna herida, y recibió tres medallas, incluyendo la cruz de Mentana.

En 1869-70 él estuvo en París, volviendo a Inglaterra después del Sedán antes de colocar otra vez en París en 1872. Aunque él continuó pintando a través el suyo que carrera-él celebró su exposición pasada en 1926 -. en Le 1878 Monde Illustré lo envió a España con Vierge para cubrir la boda de Alfonso XII.

Collingridge murió el 1 de de junio de de 1931 y fue enterrado en la sección católica del campo del cementerio de Marte.

An Autralian Veteran of the Papal Zouaves

George Alphonse Collingridge De Tourcey, (1847-1931), artist and historian, was born on 29 October 1847 at Goddington Manor,Oxfordshire, England.

His parents moved to France in 1853 and he was educated at the Jesuit College, Vaugirard, and the Académie des Beaux-Arts, Paris, studying architecture under Viollet-le-Duc, wood-engraving and painting.

In 1867, when Garibaldi invaded the Roman States, Collingridge joined the Papal Zouaves and took part in seventeen engagements, receiving no wounds but three medals, including the Mentana Cross.

In 1869-70 he was back in Paris, returning to England after Sedan before settling again in Paris in 1872. Although he continued to paint throughout his career—he held his last exhibition in 1926—. In 1878 Le Monde Illustré sent him to Spain with Vierge to cover the marriage of Alfonso XII.

Collingridge died on 1 June 1931 and was buried in the Catholic section of the Field of Mars cemetery.
